摘要、提要註:
Using insights from social exchange theory, entrepreneurship, and both intra-firm and inter-firm commitment research, this dissertation develops and tests a model of the relationship between collaborative communication and franchisee commitment. The study suggests that the level of collaborative communication between franchisors and franchisees will impact franchisees commitment to the franchising relationship and consequently their propensity to leave the franchising relationship. In a unique sample of franchisees the dissertation finds that increased levels of collaborative communication lead to greater commitment for two of the three dimensions of commitment examined in this study. In turn, higher levels of commitment were negatively related with franchisees propensity to leave. The dissertation expands franchising theory by examining the franchising relationship from the social exchange perspective and by empirically demonstrating the important role that collaborative communication plays as an antecedent to commitment.
