摘要、提要註:
The understanding of socio-cultural constraints and pragmatic competence, in particular, is one of the core components of a person's "communicative competence" (Savignon, 2001). Following a review of the literature, this researcher found many ESL textbooks lacking authentic examples of pragmatic language forms used in the English language. In response to this deficiency, a series of ten lessons on pragmatic language forms for a variety of social circumstances was created to supplement a commonly-used ESL textbook in a way which was realistic, ready-to-use, engaging, and culturally sensitive. Through an online survey using a Likert scale and essay-type responses, feedback was solicited from four experienced ESL teachers, who suggested that the supplemental pragmatic lessons may successfully create opportunities for ESL students to learn pragmatic language forms in the classroom.
