Financing Referendum Campaigns asks the question: To what extent do voters really make a direct decision when voting in a referendum? The very phrase 'direct democracy' implies that rather thangoing through representative structures, voters can influence political outcomes directly if they have the chance to vote in a referendum. Contributors to this volume explore the influence of money and other resources on referendum campaigns and their results. Covering a range of countries in Europeand North America, they outline the spending regulations in force and begin to explore the effects these have on referendum outcomes.
