摘要、提要註: The current study examined mothers' experiences and memories transitioning their infants or toddlers to child care for the first time and the strategies that are being implemented by teachers to support the mothers' well being. Seven mothers with children between the ages of 4 to 24 months were interviewed regarding their perspectives of the transition and the role of support that was given. In addition 3 infant and toddler teachers were interviewed regarding their perspectives of the transition process and the strategies they use to support new parents. The transition to child care from home is a significant change for a family and for some mothers the event can be distressing if not supported appropriately. The findings revealed that emotional support is essential during the transition period. Teachers provide reassurance to mothers when they take the time to acknowledge and address their feelings. Additional findings suggest that early contact and communication is necessary for mothers to feel secure with child care. Welcoming the mother influences the relationship and her view of the role of the adults in the environment. The research provides information educators and administrators can use in their attempts to support parents and children in the child care environment.
