Given the economic violence so clearly present in our contemporary moment throughout the globe, this volume provides crucial analysis of how we got here, looking at performances from the 18th century to the present. Case studies from Singapore, Vietnam, greater China, Peru, Mexico, Indonesia, Brazil, India, Nigeria, the US reveal how performance circulates, transmutes and challenges the disciplinary formations and assumptions of contemporary investment in market logics and notions of freedom.
